Monthly Highlights: First Trimester
By the end of the first month, the head and body are already taking shape, as well as the beginning of arms and legs. On day 25, the heart begins to beat.
By month's end eyelids are in place, although they remain closed. Appendages, including fingers, toes, and ears also appear.
Fingers and toes are now developing rapidly. Hair may also be growing on the head. The kidneys begin to function, and by the end of this month the body is fully formed.
